The devil would always want to take advantage of us through our weaknesses.
Once a friend invited me over to his church for a one week revival. And during the service, the pastor ordered everyone to call out for fire from heaven to consume the devil as though we were magicians or a wizard of a fairy tale, or the prophet Elijah himself, how fascinating.
I watched quietly and observed that most of them were sweating and panting when praying because they were busily binding and consuming the devil, and some, at the middle of the prayers were already exhausted.
Obviously there is no denial about the fact that God has given us power over the enemy through the power of the Holyghost. Besides he the devil has already been defeated by the blood of the lamb, so he is no worry. In fact I was not amazed when I saw them praying that way since that has become the normal routine for most Christians these days when it comes to prayer or spiritual warfare. Forgetting that it is through our weaknesses that the enemy even gets us in the first place.
As sugar attracts the ant, even so our weaknesses attract the enemy to us which makes us prone to sin through the temptations of the devil.
But you see most Christians these days who have their weaknesses dominating through their lifestyle which does not permit them to live in righteousness and holiness, binding the devil who is already defeated.
Does it mean we should ignore him when he attacks? Certainly not !
In the book of Ephesians, Paul admonishes us to be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might by putting on the whole armor of God, which are truth, breastplate of righteousness, shield of faith and so on, so that we can take our stand against the schemes of the enemy. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood.
Anyone who fails to have his weaknesses in control eventually is always enticed by the lustful desires and pleasures of the flesh. That is why we can spend hours fasting and praying in the church, and after these prayers the devil comes and tempt us. If one has a dominating weakness of anger, he causes someone to provoke you, or probably say anything that will make you angry. And whenever we react to these temptations we now regret and have that guilty conscience and bitterness within us which even makes us feel like our prayers will not be answered and draws us away from God. That is all the enemy wants to be hitting on your weakness to draw you away from God.
So you see the need to have your weaknesses in control before waging war in prayer against the enemy. But most Christians ignorantly become victims of the snare of the enemy.
Join me in our next lesson as we discuss how our weaknesses came about and how to overcome them.
